Valve Boxes: The Intelligent Core of Cryogenic Systems

A valve box is a specialized, complex apparatus for delivering super-cooled fluids like Liquid Helium and Liquid Hydrogen to users such as particle accelerators and Cryopumps. It integrates valves, sensors, and controls into a single vacuum-insulated enclosure with supreme insulation for eliminating heat leaks. It manages temperature, pressure, and gas flow, acting as a crucial interface for operation, incorporating safety features like pressure relief for quenches.

Liquid hydrogen has a temperature of -252.9 °C and liquid helium as low as -268.9 °C. These cryogenic liquids are both still highly scarce and expensive. It is therefore essential to prevent the warming up and consequent loss of this liquid gas.

The INOXCVA Difference

  • Proven at the Extremes: We engineered the specialized Valve Box for ITER, FAIR, ISRO and others.
  • Collaborative Custom Design: We tailor each solution to your specific infrastructure and thermal performance needs.
  • Superior Insulation Expertise: Our design minimizes boil-off loss, reducing your operational costs as Liquid Helium at temperature -269 degree C and Liquid Hydrogen at -252 degree C are highly expensive cryogens.
  • End-to-End Cryogenic Integration: Designed to seamlessly connect with your entire cryogenic system.

Key Benefits

  • Simplified Design – Cleaner layouts with centralized components.
  • Maximized Efficiency – Superior insulation reduces fluid loss.
  • Enhanced Safety & Control – All critical functions in one accessible location.
  • Cost-Effective – Lowers installation time and maintenance complexity.

Specifications & Configuration

Constructed from high grade stainless steel (304 L/316 L) with a copper/Aluminium radiation shield and high-performance Multi-Layer Insulation. The radiation shield is dynamically cooled with return Helium gas or Liquid Nitrogen.

The typical valve box contains:
  • Control valves
  • Open/Close valves
  • Safety relief valves
  • Temperature sensors
  • Pressure sensors
  • Flow meters
  • Heat Exchangers
  • Phase separators
  • Sub-coolers

Applications

Liquid helium is mainly used in large physics experiments, scientific research and the medical industry. The Liquid Helium is mainly used to cool down the superconducting magnets for Fusion reactor (ITER), particle accelerator (CERN, FAIR), MRI scanners and others.

The Valve Boxes along with our vacuum insulated piping/Multi-transfer lines (MTL) ensure that Liquid helium reaches to the various users with required parameters safely and optimum quality.
